Security Cameras

There are many internet capable cameras available on the market. These vary in cost and functions. The important thing is that you choose a camera or cameras that meet your needs.
For example, in Island Park, if you want an outdoor camera to monitor your property year round you have to choose a camera that will tolerate the below-zero winter temperatures. One that will is the Ring Floodlight Camera.
I have installed a Ring at my home and tested it over two winters. It’s a good camera but a little on the expensive side at $249.00. Especially now that lower cost cameras are coming out that meet or beat the Ring’s performance.

Nooie

One such camera I have been evaluating is the Nooie Outdoor Security Camera that is only $79.99

Blink

Here are some of the other popular cameras on the market

Blink – a good low cost solution. The Blink XT2 ($99.00) runs off lithium AA batteries for up to two years and is built for outdoor use. However, they are only rated for minus 4-degrees and Island Park gets much colder than that. They can be moved inside for winter and then relocated outside for the warmer months. The Blink XT2 also has two way audio, motion alerts and live-view that can be access from your smart phone using the Blink app for iPhone or Android.

Ring – higher cost than some others, but good performance and the cameras can tolerate severe below-zero temperatures. The cameras can be set for motion detection, or you can live-view anytime from your smart phone using the Ring app for iPhone and Android. The cameras also have two way audio, meaning you can hear what is going on and talk through the cameras to alert any unwanted visitors you are watching. These cameras have to be hard-wired and often work well as a swap-out replacement for an existing garage or house spotlight.

Google Nest – the Google Nest Cam IQ Outdoor ($399.00) is rated for up to minus 40-degrees. It has the same bells and whistles as the other cameras – two way audio, motion alerts and live-view that can be access from your smart phone. Google is the highest cost solution, but you can integrate the camera with the many other Smart Home devices Google offers.
